Position Description

The Senior Program Director is responsible for the development and operation of multiple YMCA programs.


  • High school diploma; bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years supervisory experience
  • Strong character values; communication skills
  • YMCA Multi- Team or Branch Leader Certification preferred.


  1. Ensure a welcoming environment for all members and guests.
  2. Oversee and conduct ongoing program member evaluations and surveys to ensure that high levels of quality in programs are maintained at all times; ensure outcomes align with the needs of the community and the branch strategic plan.
  3. Set an example for all staff by greeting members by name and taking the initiative to talk to members.
  4. Communicate program information, registration information, schedules, etc., effectively and consistently with branch management and membership staff. Update program brochures and fliers to ensure strong communication throughout the branch.
  5. Develop and achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual goals.
  6. Build strong relationships with members and the community by evaluating the scope and quality of the membership, programs offered, community needs, cost and other collaborations.
  7. Ensure all membership and program enrollments are processed accurately and thoroughly.
  8. Recruit and hire staff using screening tools and panel interviews to gain the best possible fit with each opening.
  9. Provide direct supervision to department staff, assuring that all staff are qualified, certified, and are meeting minimum performance standards for their position.
  10. Provide training for staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis through staff meetings, special courses and workshops.
  11. Address all issues and inquiries in an appropriate and timely manner.
  12. Ensure accurate and professional delivery of YMCA program information and policies.
  13. Establish and implement procedures for managing members and program member accounts.
  14. Track, monitor, and follow up with all prospective members that show interest.
  15. Sets an example for all staff by welcoming and engaging with members.
  16. Respond to member needs and concerns; address all issues and inquiries in an appropriate and timely manner.
  17. Actively support and participate in the annual campaign, achieving volunteer recruitment and goals as established by the branch.
  18. Develop annual operating budget assigned departments. Manage department budget to achieve monthly, quarterly and annual goals. Maintain systems for variance analysis, revenue and expense monitoring and control.
  19. Develop work schedules, coordinate daily work, and make sure timecards are properly recorded by employees. Manage and schedule appropriate staffing in Dayforce to ensure smooth operations. Responsible for approving staffs timesheets at the end of the pay period.
  20. Develop annual job performance standards in conjunction with the employee and Executive Director.  Provide ongoing performance feedback and conduct annual performance appraisals.
  21. As required, acquire and manage grants/3rd party contracts in an accurate and timely manner. Prepares and submits reports and documentation.
  22. Create opportunities (events, initiatives, activities) for members to develop small communities within the branch.
  23. Participate in community outreach through grassroots outings, building relationships and partnerships with community leaders, local businesses, and local government.
  24. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  25. Creates and presents enrollment reports on key performance areas of the operation to the Executive Director, committees and Board as requested.
  26. Attends community events and presents YMCA information as needed.
  27. Assures YMCA safety policies are followed and at standard.  Serves as or assigns the role of Safety Coordinator. 
  28. Work with branch staff to achieve a passing standard in the annual safety audit.
  29. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
