Position Description

Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, the Program Director will bring leadership to our summer specialty camp, healthy family events, and the Physical Learning Activities for Youth (PLAY) program. PLAY is an off-site supplemental physical activity program at 40+ elementary schools in the San Fernando Valley. The Program Director will serve as a leader at our branch, community liaison at our partner schools, and take an active role in our Annual financial support campaign, including donor and volunteer cultivation. This position requires you to have experience teaching and leading children, and the ability to develop or implement classes that are age appropriate. In addition to individual class instruction, it is necessary to be able to lead class participants - and for the instructor to foster a positive class environment that is safe and fun.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Pedagogy, Education, Exercise Physiology, or related field. California Teaching Credential is preffered.
  • Strong character values; excellent communication skills; strong computer skills and a thorough knowledge of M/S Office

  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience

  • 3-4 years experience working with children and youth
  • Ability to think and lead stratigically under pressure, multi-task, and work independently
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required within 60 days of hire

Responsibilities

  1. Provide leadership to the PLAY program, expo camp, healthy family nights, and healthy habits weeks
  2. Ensure a welcoming environment in assigned YMCA Program.
  3. Develop, implement and achieve enrollment goals identified in Branch Annual Operating Plan
  4. Oversee and conduct ongoing program member evaluations and surveys to ensure that high levels of quality in programs are maintained at all times; ensure outcomes align with the needs of the community and the branch strategic plan
  5. Aid in the hiring, supervising, and discinpline of 40+ staff
  6. Aid in the development and adaptation of daily lesson plans
  7. Mentor and assist in the continual training of PLAY, enrichment, and summer speciality camp coaches and counselors
  8. Set an example for all staff by greeting members by name and taking the initiative to talk to members
  9. Recruit and hire staff using screening tools and panel interviews to gain the best possible fit with each opening.
  10. Provide direct supervision to department staff, assuring that all staff are qualified, certified, and are meeting minimum performance standards for their position.
  11. Provide training for staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis through staff meetings, special courses and workshops.
  12. Develop annual operating budget for assigned program. Manage department budget to achieve monthly, quarterly and annual goals. Maintain systems for variance analysis, revenue and expense monitoring and control.
  13. Support a year round fund raising program that includes the Annual Support Campaign, special events; Responsible for Annual Support Campaign leadership including team captains, division manager and/or team members.
  14. Serve as a staff officer to assigned committee that reports to the Board of Mangers; Ensure committee has a commission statement and chart of work that is aligned with the branch strategic plan.
  15. Create opportunities (events, initiatives, activities) for members to develop small communities within the YMCA.
  16. Ensure all staff members are familiar with all programs offered at the YMCA so staff are able to inform members of YMCA programs that will meet members' changing needs and interests.
  17. Communicate program information, registration information, schedules, etc., effectively and consistently with branch management and membership staff. Update program brochures and fliers to ensure strong communication throughout the branch.
