Position Description

The Payroll Coordinator/ Accounting Clerk is an integral team member of the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles' Accounting & Finance department. They work closely with the rest of the Accounting & Finance department, our 26 branches and cross functional teams on matters related to payroll, wage and hours and accounting. They are responsible for performing daily payroll functions in an accurate and timely matter, providing support to the branches with payroll related issues, performing various accounting duties and supporting other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • A minimum of two years of experience processing payroll and time entry functions
  • Knowledge of HR/payroll systems (preferably Ceridian)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Experience in supporting and performing accounting functions a plus

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Payroll Coordinator
o Coordinate the accurate and timely submission and approvals of time cards through Ceridian Dayforce HCM, including audit and validation processes. Be proactive in trouble shooting and solving problems to ensure that all employees get paid correctly and on time. Work closely with
Ceridian Support and IT Department to solve payroll processing issues.o Process complete payroll run and all the reports that are required, including saving all reports in designated folder and preparing payroll checks upon arrival for distribution. Distribute payroll reports to all branches each pay period including Payroll Registers, Labor Distribution reports, and Individual Deduction reports.


o Enter employee W-4s, credit union deductions, direct deposits, garnishments and other payroll related deductions. Process employment verifications, subpoenas, benefit audits and LOA Claim forms. Process and research Unclaimed Property for payroll checks. Process and submit
required reporting to agencies.


o Process, balance and/or maintain worksheets on payroll taxes, onsite checks, daily positive pay, cash reports, voids and manual entries. Research discrepancies and process adjustments as necessary.


o Provide assistance and be available to answer and address any questions regarding Ceridian Dayforce HCM. Suggest areas of improvement or identify opportunities for more efficiency. Report any issues that come up in Ceridian Dayforce HCM which includes working directly with Ceridian Support to resolve issues and doing necessary follow ups if the issues are not resolved
in a timely matter.


o Conduct on-site Branch Payroll Procedures Assessments to evaluate compliance with payroll best practices, wage and hour laws and Association policies and procedures.


o Provide and model exemplary customer service with a focus on positive employee experience. Train appropriate Association staff in payroll and wage and hours procedures. Provide one-on-one assistance and trainings regarding entering work hours, vacation, sick, jury duty, etc; efficiently tracking and managing their time and labor, multiple pay rates, general ledger codes, etc; and submitting time cards to supervisor and editing.


o Maintain highest level of professionalism and confidentiality in support of the branches and organization.


Accounting Clerk
o Support the Accounting & Finance team in maintaining accurate accounting records through preparing and tracking spreadsheets, verifying data, uploading data, running reports, and scanning and/or filing documents.


o Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, including reconciling payroll output to the general ledger. Prepare journal entries as necessary.


o Work on other special projects as assigned.
