Position Description

The West Valley Family YMCA is hiring a Site Director for our School-Age Child Care program!  As a Site Director, you will lead a state-licensed child care program and facility, including a staff team of 2-3 enthusiastic child care teachers.   Each day, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life.   For this particular position, you will oversee a child care program located inside a private facility on a public school campus (this facility is exclusive to the child care program and is owned and operated by the YMCA).  Our child care program consists of two components: before and after school care and full day/day camp.  During the school day, the program offers before and after school care to children K-5.  During school breaks, (such as summer, etc.), the program offers day camp to children K-5.  This is a year-round, permanent position (not seasonal).  As a Site Director, you will be able to: run the operation of the program and facility following both YMCA and Title 22 guidelines, write and create curriculum and fun activities for your participants, work and lead a staff team of 2-3 other teachers, work with the school, PTA and parents to support the school community, and, so much more.   This is a part-time position, consisting of a minimum of 35 hours per week (up to 40 hours per week during day camp and full-day care).  This position also requires the Site Director to be in-ratio with children for part of the day.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years-old.
  • Title 22 Site Director qualified: Minimum twelve (12) units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, three (3) units in Administration or Staff Relations.
  • Four (4) years of experience working with children and youth.
  • Current First Aid; Adult, Infant and Child CPR; AED and Child Care Health and Safety (PHP) certifications (may be obtained within 60 days of hire).
  • Current Community Water Safety certification (may be obtained prior to June 2018).
  • Minimum (2) years of supervisory experience in school age child care programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the YMCA mission/values and member involvement as an organizational philosophy

  • Successful leadership skills; self-motivated; high achiever
  • Minimum High School level English proficiency
  • Completion of YMCA trainings and orientations, upon hire.
  • Knowledge of Community Care Licensing Title 22 Regulations and Policies
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel between main work location (West Hills) and main branch location (Reseda) for meetings, trainings, etc.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for overall direction and operation of a West Valley YMCA licensed Child Care Center. This position includes the direct supervision of a after school program, grades K through 5, as well as our day camp programs during the summer and holiday breaks.

Key Results Areas of this Position:

  • Program Operations and Development: Implement well-rounded curriculum; Model appropriate use of constructive discipline; Maintain child-directed environment; Maintain Title 22 licensing compliance: environment, recordkeeping, staff and children files, etc.; increase enrollment and retention of children; recruit new children and families into the program.
  • Staff Development: provide leadership, support and oversight to teachers and evaluate, both in consultation with Senior Program Director of Child Care; Actively support staff and ensure that staff direct reports have progress/performance reviews once a year; Maintain current and up-to-date records for staff that requires certifications and keep copies on file.; Ensure that all job descriptions and performance standards are accurate, current; Maintain a high level of staff professionalism by enforcing staff dress code and code of conduct.
  • Financial Development and Parent Volunteer Involvement: Initiate, establish and maintain strong communications with parents; Assist supervisor with the recruitment of parents for fundraising and support campaigns; Lead Family Events and special events where required; Work with supervisor, staff and volunteers to meet annual campaign recruitment/financial goals.
  • Administration and Branch Responsibilities: Comply with all Association, branch, and regulatory specific policies and procedures; Positively interpret policies to members; Ensure that all facilities, program areas and equipment are clean and in proper working order; Participate in program and branch activities and events as directed; Attend staff meetings and training events; Work as a team member of the overall West Valley Family YMCA School Age Child Care Program.
  • Site Operation: Site Director may be required to be in ratio when site is short-staffed, enrollment is over or staff call out sick/ill. This is a year round permanent position, responsible for the overall supervision and management of a child care program that is licensed.
