The Palisades-Malibu Family YMCA is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to join our team as the Youth and Special Events Director.  Our YMCA is located in the Pacific Palisades, near the Palisades village.  The Palisades-Malibu YMCA services the Pacific Palisades and surrounding communities.

Under the direction of the Director of Programs, the Youth & Special Events Director is responsible for the administration and management of youth sports, summer day camp, and the annual pumpkin patch and Christmas tree lot.  This position would also lend a supporting role to the teen programs and its director.  Youth programs include flag football, t-ball and soccer, where volunteer/parent engagement is of the utmost importance. The director will provide the community with sound programs in accordance with the YMCA goals and objectives. Director must have the willingness to project the YMCA representation by personal adherence to all policies and must exemplify the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.  This employee must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, evenings, weekends or holidays as needed.  This position also oversees the development of staff, programs, finances and daily operations of the sports department.  The director acts as a liaison to committee(s) and advisory board(s) as directed and play an active leadership role in the YMCA Community Support Campaign.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:         

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum age 24
  • Four year degree in related field
  • Minimum five years' experience in youth program development and management
  • Minimum five years' experience and proven success managing and developing staff and finances
  • Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  • Maintain current CPR, AED, first aid and emergency oxygen or acquire within 60 days of hire

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively
  • Position requires prolonged standing and sitting
  • Must be able to lift minimum of 50 pounds
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Effectively communicate the mission, vision and values of the YMCA.
  2. Play a strong leadership role in the YMCA Community Support Campaign.
  3. Foster positive relationships with staff, members and volunteers.
  4. Hire and train program coordinators and staff in areas of responsibility.
  5. Provide on-going leadership, professional guidance and development to staff.
  6. Development and management of sports budget.
  7. Ensure high quality programs through innovative program development, audits and evaluation.
  8. Provide direction on overall participation growth in all leagues.
  9. Guide staff on providing a safe and clean program environment/area.
  10. Communicate regularly and effectively with staff (meetings, one-on-one monthly meetings with direct reports, etc.).
  11. Maintain complete familiarity of all risk management procedures and policies for department areas and the overall branch.
  12. Provide coverage and leadership for branch at a variety of times (evenings and weekends).
  13. All other duties assigned.

Annual Salary Range:  $50,000, Full time/with benefits
