Position Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, The Site Director serves in a leadership role and creates positive, nurturing relationships with children while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers, staff, and partners. The Site Lead supports the YMCA Distance Learning Support program and staff, by ensuring a high quality virtual schoolwork and homework assistance support program, with enrichment and recreational activities; all while ensuring that all current health and safety precaution and physical distancing requirements are maintained. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience. Provides direction for the staff to support children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum focused on mastering specific skills. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families. This is a seasonal part-time position. Hours are typically between 8am-6pm. Full-Time hours anticipated during the summer and part-time hours anticipated during the school-year. This seasonal position is scheduled to end on or before December 30, 2021.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or Completed course work in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child & Adolescent Development, Recreation, Education, Sociology or Psychology, preferred.
  • 2 years of experience leading, organizing and/or coordinating school-age child care, afterschool, academic, school-based or camp programs and staff, preferred.
  • Strong character values, strong communication skills, emotional maturity.
  • Current First Aid, Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certifications (or within 60 days of employment). TB Test. Attend all required trainings. Willing to adhere to all current health orders related to COVID-19 safety and precaution (face coverings, physical distancing, good health hygiene, etc.).

Responsibilities

  1. Support staff team in the management of school-age children, ranging in grades K-12, in their distance learning/virtual learning, including, but not limited to, ensuring staff are: assisting children with logging in to technology, ensuring children are attentive and engaged in their online classes, providing support and assistance in help them to complete schoolwork and homework, managing their daily class schedule, tutoring, leading enrichment and recreation activities, during out-of-school time, etc.
  2. Managing a classroom cohort of up to 12 children, as needed (when giving staff breaks, when subbing for a staff who has called out, etc.)
  3. Managing a program site and environment that maintains all health orders related to COVID-19: physical distancing, face coverings, hand washing breaks, sanitizing and disinfecting, limiting shared equipment, visual health assessments, etc.
  4. Develops, organizes and implements high quality children's support program at assigned location. Ensures high quality programs through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  5. Full understanding of federal, state, county and local Public Health regulations as it related to providing School-Age day care and day camp programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Responsible for ensuring assigned location operates in full compliance with regulations at all times.
  6. Develops positive relations with community as a YMCA representative. Assist with marketing efforts and achieving enrollment goals.
  7. Secures necessary supplies and equipment for program activities within budget guidelines.
  8. Supports supervisor with onboarding and training staff members as needed. Provides Assist with coordinating schedules and work flow to ensure program operates in a safe and efficient manner.
  9. Observes staff and provided feedback to staff members at assigned location. Provides feedback to supervisor regarding performance of staff
  10. Ensures close visual supervision of children, following ratios based on specific program. No child is left unsupervised or staff alone with a child at any time.

    Licensed-Exempt School-Age Programs in the age of COVID-19

    1 Program Leader for every cohort of up to a maximum of 12-14 School-Age children

  11. Help children manage behavior using a positive approach, including proactive strategies, redirection and using constructive discipline with natural and logical consequences.
  12. Actively supports the YMCA is committed to inclusion and compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) where appropriate.
  13. Support planning and implementing program curriculum and activities that are focused on skill development, developmentally appropriate, consistent with the YMCA values, and established guidelines, and within the guidelines of the YMCA's program standards and the current health orders related to COVID-19.
  14. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards, maintains site and equipment, and maintains required program records in accordance with federal, state, county and local Public Health regulations, funding terms and conditions, and YMCA expectations
  15. Ensures completion of all administrative paperwork, including, but not limited to: daily safety checks, incident reports, 3rd party management, email communication, grant and government reporting, roster management, sign-in sheets, etc., and as assigned.
  16. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child. Communicates with supervisor regarding child's development.
  17. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  18. Attends and participates in fundraising activities, family events, program activities, staff meetings and trainings assigned.
  19. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. Follows reporting procedures and proactively responds to situations to ensure a safe environment for all involved.
  20. Understands and complies with current federal, state, county, local regulations, YMCA policies and procedures at all If applicable, understands and complies with current American Camping Association (ACA) procedures and Community Care Licensing waivers, at all times.
  21. Maintains positive relationship with parents, other YMCA team members and community partners. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  22. All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

  • You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
