POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Seasonal After School Enrichment Coordinator (Learning Pods) serves in a leadership role and creates positive, nurturing relationships with children while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers, staff, and partners. The Seasonal After School Enrichment Coordinator (Learning Pods) supports the YMCA After School Tutoring Program and Academic Recovery Learning Academy (Learning Pod) program and staff, by ensuring a high quality academic and educational support, with enrichment and recreational activities; all while ensuring that all current health and safety precaution requirements are maintained. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience. Provides direction for the staff to support children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum focused on mastering specific skills. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families. This is a seasonal position that is expected to end in December of 2021, unless funding is renewed for 2022. This is a part-time job with 17-20 hours per week. Typical schedule is 2:30pm-6:15pm, Monday-Friday.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • AGE: Eighteen years or older
  • EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completed course work in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child & Adolescent Development, Recreation, Education, Sociology or Psychology, preferred, but not required.
  • RELATED EXPERIENCE: 1 year of experience leading, organizing and/or coordinating School-Age child care, afterschool, academic, school-based or day camp programs and staff, preferred.
  • SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Strong character values, strong communication skills, emotional maturity
  • QUALIFICATIONS: Current First Aid, Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certifications (or willing to complete within 30 days of employment). TB Test. Attend all required trainings. Willing to adhere to all current health orders related to COVID-19 safety and precaution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Support staff team in the management of School-Age children, ranging in grades K-8, in a an afterschool tutoring and enrichment program. Support includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff are: assisting children with logging in to technology (if applicable), ensuring children are attentive and engaged in educational and enrichment activities, providing support and assistance to children with homework and schoolwork, tutoring in math, science, English and literacy, leading enrichment, sports and recreation activities, etc.
  2. Managing a classroom cohort of up to 12-14 children, as needed (when giving staff breaks, when subbing for a staff who has called out, etc.)
  3. Managing a program site and environment that maintains all health orders related to COVID-19.
  4. Develops, organizes and implements high quality children's support program at assigned location. Ensures high quality programs through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  5. Full understanding of federal, state, county and local Public Health regulations as it related to providing learning pod programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Responsible for ensuring assigned location operates in full compliance with regulations at all times.
  6. Develops positive relations with community as a YMCA representative. Assist with marketing efforts and achieving enrollment goals.
  7. Secures necessary supplies and equipment for program activities within budget guidelines.
  8. Supports Branch Coordinator with onboarding and training staff members as needed. Provides Assist with coordinating schedules and work flow to ensure program operates in a safe and efficient manner.
  9. Observes staff and provided feedback to staff members at assigned location. Provides feedback to supervisor regarding performance of staff members.
  10. Ensures close visual supervision of children, following ratios based on specific program. No child is left unsupervised or staff alone with a child at any time.
  11. Help children manage behavior using a positive approach, including proactive strategies, redirection and using constructive discipline with natural and logical consequences.
  12. Actively supports the YMCA is committed to inclusion and compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) where appropriate.
  13. Support planning and implementing program curriculum and activities that are focused on skill development, developmentally appropriate, consistent with the YMCA values, and established guidelines, and within the guidelines of the YMCA's program standards and the current health orders related to COVID-19. Follows the designed program curriculum and ensures that staff tutors are implementing it in an intentional manner.
  14. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards, maintains site and equipment, and maintains required program records in accordance with federal, state, county and local Public Health regulations, funding terms and conditions, and YMCA expectations.
  15. Ensures completion of all administrative paperwork, including, but not limited to: daily safety checks, incident reports, 3rd party management, email communication, grant and government reporting, roster management, sign-in sheets, etc., and as assigned.
  16. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child. Communicates with supervisor regarding child's development.
  17. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  18. Attends and participates in fundraising activities, family events, program activities, staff meetings and trainings as assigned.
  19. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. Follows reporting procedures and proactively responds to situations to ensure a safe environment for all involved.
  20. Understands and complies with current federal, state, county, local regulations, YMCA policies and procedures at all times. If applicable, understands and complies with current American Camping Association (ACA) procedures and Community Care Licensing waivers, at all times.
  21. Maintains positive relationship with parents, other YMCA team members and community partners. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  22. All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
