The PLAY program coordinator is responsible for leading staff in the development and operation of play and affiliated programs. This position requires close attention to member support and engagement, program growth and retention, fiscal management, financial development, staff development, marketing and communications.

Qualifications

  • AGE: 21 years or older
  • EDUCATION: High school Diploma; Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology or related field preferred.
  • CERTIFICATION: YMCA Team Leader certification preferred
  • RELATED EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years supervisory experience
  • SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Strong character values (respect, responsibility, honesty, caring); strong communication skills; emotional maturity.
  • LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Current approved EMSA CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications for Adult, Infant, and Child. Completion of compliance trainings prior to first day in program.

Essential Functions

Program operations/member engagement

  • Enroll as an YMCA approved driver
  • Ensure a welcoming environment in assigned YMCA programs
  • Develop, implement and achieve enrollment goals identified in branch annual operating plan.
  • Oversee and conduct ongoing program evaluations and surveys to ensure that high levels of quality in programs are maintained at all times; ensure outcomes align with the needs of the community and the branch strategic plan.
  • Set an example for all staff by greeting participants by name and taking the initiative to talk to students and faculty.
  • Ensure that all facilities, program areas and equipment are clean and in proper working order.
  • Manage following programs: YMCA PLAY program.

Staff engagement & development

  • Recruit and hire staff using screening tools and panel interviews to gain the best possible fit with each opening.
  • Provide direct supervision to department staff, assuring that all staff are qualified, certified, and are meeting minimum performance standards for their position.
  • Provide training for staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis through staff meetings, special courses and workshops.

Budget & fiscal management

  • Develop annual operating budget for assigned program. Manage department budget to achieve monthly, quarterly and annual goals. Maintain systems for variance analysis, revenue and expense monitoring and control.
  • Meet volunteer and financial goals for annual support campaign, assign goals to staff and provide guidance to staff in meeting their goals.

Community engagement

  • Develop annual marketing plan including mailings, advertisement and community outreach.
  • Ensure all staff members are familiar with all programs offered at the YMCA so staff are able to inform play participants of YMCA programs that will meet their changing needs and interests.
  • Identify program volunteer positions and assist with the identification, recruitment and tracking of program volunteers
  • Communicate program information, registration information, schedules, etc., effectively and consistently with branch management and staff.
  • Attend staff trainings as required, including weekly management meetings
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
  • Demonstrate the six pillars of character {trustworthiness, citizenship, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness) as well as the YMCA core values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
  • Demonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the cause driven leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness and personal growth.
  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
